FAQ

  • Aren't roof cavities quite dirty? Won't it blow this into the house?

Yes - roof cavities can be very dusty and full of harmful insulation fibres. However HRV insist on an extremely fine grade of filter, filling your home with air that is even purer than outdoor air.
  • How does it cool in summer if the roof is hot?

The system will use evening air to cool your home and help you sleep. Adding a summer kit allows the system to pull air from outdoors, providing cooling during the day as well.
  • How much does an HRV cost to run?

The HRV is very efficient, and our basic unit will cost no more than an average lightbulb to run - that's 10c a day!
  • How much does it cost to install?

No two homes are the same. Price varies depending on the size of your home, number of bedrooms, stud height, etc.

  • I've got a tile/iron/slate/decramastic roof - will it still work?

Different roofs have different characteristics. For example, iron will heat and cool faster, and tiles will heat slower and retain heat longer. The HRV will work with any roof surface.
  • I've got no insulation/lots of insulation, how does that affect the HRV?

The HRV will dry and ventilate your home equally well no matter what kind of insulation you have.
  • What's wrong with just opening my windows?

Unfortunately, keeping the home open through winter is just not a reality. Opening the house up every day defeats the purpose of sealing the home in the first place, which is to make it easy to heat, and keep it secure. The system uses roof cavity air because it is warmer and drier than outdoor air. The HRV will also pressurize the home with this warm, dry, purified air, keeping out dusts, pollens and pollution.
  • Where does the heat come from? Isn't the roof cold in winter?

Your roof space is freely heated by solar radiation - ask any tradesperson that spends a bit of time in roof cavities, and they will tell you that in winter you would often be far better off moving your couch and TV into the loft!
  • Will ventilation systems blow cold air into my home in winter? Or hot air in summer?

Yes! Unless you install a smart, temperature controlled HRV system. The HRV can be quickly and easily set up and is smart enough to run completely automatically without ever compromising the comfort of you and your family.
